640 × 480 High-Resolution Thermal Imaging

At the heart of the Dark 30 Defiance is a 640 × 480, 17μm thermal sensor with <30mK NETD thermal sensitivity.

Combined with a fast 60Hz frame rate, the system produces detailed, fluid thermal imagery when scanning for moving animals. The increased resolution of the 640 sensor also provides the detail needed to move beyond simply detecting a heat source and begin assessing what you're looking at.

Full 360° Thermal Scanning

One of the defining features of the Dark 30 Defiance PTZ thermal camera is its ability to continuously pan through 360 degrees.

Instead of physically turning yourself or repositioning a handheld thermal imager, the vehicle-mounted camera can scan the surrounding landscape while you remain inside the cab.

Tilt adjustment extends from straight down to 45° above horizontal, providing extensive coverage around the vehicle. Combined with variable-speed remote control, this makes it possible to rapidly search large areas before slowing the camera movement when a heat source requires closer examination.

Up to 1140m Thermal Detection Range

The 32mm F1.0 germanium objective lens provides an excellent combination of detection distance and field of view, with the Defiance capable of detecting a heat source at distances reaching approximately 1140 metres / 1250 yards.

A generous 20° horizontal field of view is particularly useful from a vehicle, allowing large areas of farmland and open countryside to be searched efficiently rather than restricting the operator to a narrow, highly magnified image.

Once something of interest has been detected, 1-8x digital zoom can be used for a closer look.

10.1" Full HD In-Vehicle Display

Rather than requiring the operator to continually look through an eyepiece, the Defiance 640 includes a large 10.1-inch 1920 × 1200 LCD monitor.

A direct HDMI connection between the thermal camera and display provides a low-latency thermal image, allowing the surrounding area to be observed comfortably from inside the vehicle.

This large-screen format is especially useful when working as a team. A driver, stalker, gamekeeper or pest controller can monitor the thermal image without repeatedly passing a handheld thermal device between occupants.

Five Thermal Colour Palettes

Different environments can benefit from different thermal viewing modes, so the Defiance provides five thermal colour palettes.

White Hot and Black Hot provide familiar high-contrast views that are particularly effective when rapidly searching for heat signatures, while Rainbow, Magenta and Green Hot provide alternative ways of displaying thermal information when examining a detected animal or object in greater detail.

Remote & Smartphone Control

The Dark 30 Defiance can be operated using its supplied wireless remote control, giving the user variable-speed control over the camera's movement.

There's also support for the Dark 30 App on iOS and Android, allowing compatible smartphones and tablets to control the PTZ system.

Useful functions include Sleep Mode and Return to Home, allowing the system to be quickly repositioned or placed into standby as conditions require.

Multiple Vehicle Mounting Options

Not every user wants to permanently modify their vehicle, so Dark 30 has designed the Defiance around several different mounting methods.
