Vortex Veil 400 Thermal Monocular - Further Information
The Vortex Veil 400 Thermal Monocular provides clear, dependable heat detection for hunters, land managers and wildlife observers operating after dark or in difficult visibility. Designed around intuitive controls and a familiar handheld format, it offers capable thermal performance without unnecessary complication.
A 400×300 thermal detector with a fine 12-micron pixel pitch captures 120,000 individual temperature-sensing points. This helps reveal useful detail in animals and other heat sources, making them easier to distinguish from vegetation, terrain and background heat. The image is presented through a high-resolution 1024×768 OLED display, producing a crisp and responsive view when scanning fields, woodland margins or dense cover.
Its 2.3x optical magnification delivers a practical balance between target detail and field of view, while 1x, 2x and 4x digital zoom settings allow closer examination of distant heat signatures. The Veil 400 offers a manufacturer-rated detection range of up to 1,100 yards, making it a capable thermal spotter for observing large areas of ground.
Four thermal colour palettes—White Hot, Black Hot, Red Hot and Multicolour—allow the display to be adapted to changing surroundings and individual viewing preferences. Dedicated Balanced, Contrast and Brush viewing modes provide further image optimisation for open terrain, difficult backlighting, dense vegetation, humidity and other challenging conditions.
Integrated photo and video recording makes it easy to capture thermal observations for later review. Files are stored on the device and can be transferred using a direct USB connection, with no mobile application or wireless pairing required.
Powered by a replaceable rechargeable 18650 battery, the Veil 400 provides up to 4.5 hours of operation per battery. Two batteries and an external charger are included, allowing one battery to be carried as a ready replacement during longer nights in the field.
Compact, rubber armoured and built for outdoor use, the Veil 400 is waterproof, fogproof and shockproof. An integrated compass assists with orientation, while its ¼-20 tripod interface enables use with compatible tripods and vehicle-window mounts. The Veil 400 is a handheld observation device and is not designed for mounting on a rifle.
