What Is a Wildlife Camera?

A wildlife camera is a weatherproof, motion-activated camera designed to record animals in the field without a person being present. When the built-in sensor detects movement, the camera takes a photo or video and stores it on an SD card, or sends it straight to your phone over a mobile network. Most models use covert infrared illumination at night, which means they can record in the dark without giving off visible light that would disturb wildlife.

These cameras are also known as trail cameras or camera traps. Alongside wildlife monitoring, they are widely used for security, property surveillance, deer management and game keeping.
