The first few Pulsar N550 Digisights have arrived into stock!

First "onsite" test of the new Pulsar N550 Digisight

We recieved a few from the first batch of the brand new Pulsar N550 Digisight today, and finally got the chance to put it through its paces in our large warehouse.

Its been a long wait, but the N550's have finally started to come into stock, but as the demand has been so huge, they are arriving in small quantities.

We have a large waiting list of customers who have pre-ordered their N550's and we believe the next unallocated batch will be in Jan/Feb 2010.

Trying out the first unit at Scott Country.

We excitedly unpacked the order from Pulsar, and set up a dummy target in our warehouse. The dummy target was quite literally a "dummy" plastic mannequin which we stood in the corner of the dark warehouse.

At approx 25meters (the width of our warehouse) the resolution was incredible, with depth, definition and detail being easily seen.

It gets dark early in our neck of the woods (SW Scotland) and we got the chance to try a DigiSight in the field. Although there wasnt any quarry to look at, we were amazed with the range of the unit, and we feel confident it will easily out perform any Gen 2 night vision sight, that we have tried previously.

I have never been one to use a manual as i normally get too excited with a new gadget, and rush ahead to try it out. The same scenario applied to the Digisight, and although i had only once looked through the demo model back in October, i had all the functions operational within 10minutes of use.

Changing reticle, adjusting brightness, focusing and zeroing were all easily performed, and i cant wait to try out the reticle upload function when the software becomes available.

Trying out the first unit in the field.

We took an N550 out into the field, and last night was a very dark gloomy night with 100% cloud cover and zero ambient starlight or moonlight.

As it was very cold and wet there was little in the way of wildlife to view, so i put my dogs cuddly teddy bear down the bottom of the field and paced it to approx 100meters.

I was hugely impressed by the performance of the N550 and the onboard illuminator and the teddy bears eyes were perfectly visible, as well as the remnants of its nose, which i could see clearly, even without ambient light.

We held our HD video camera to the eyepiece to give you an idea how good it is, but the video doesnt do justice as it is relying on the camera to transmit the light from the scope as well as the image as you try to hold the camera still.

We were very impressed, and looking at trees approx 200m away, you felt confident you could easily spot objects to that distance and beyond quite clearly.

If you dont have your name down for a Digisight already, i recommend you do so asap, as im confident that they are going to be the best selling optics of 2010.

During the day its fine to use a Digisight, unlike normal NV tube products, and the N550 performs as well during daylight as it does at night, giving you the opportunity to shoot during the day AND at night with the one scope and rifle, something previously unheard of in Night vision before.
